JLC Ventures is the early-stage investment arm of JLC Family Office. We find founders before they launch, in the idea stage, the garage stage, the kitchen table stage, and help them get to market.

We do not wait for a pitch deck with perfect metrics. We look for the founder with the vision, the discipline, and the heart to build something that lasts. We invest early, we stay close, and we grow when they grow.

Our investment criteria are simple:

The founder knows their customer personally, not from a research report, but from living in the same community, speaking the same language, and feeling the same need.

The business solves a real problem, not a theoretical one. People are already paying for a worse version of what this founder wants to build.

The model is sustainable. Revenue is not a future hope. It is a present plan. We back businesses that can stand on their own, not ones that need endless rounds of funding to survive.

The founder is coachable, hungry, and honest. We have been the entry-level hire and the C-suite executive. We know what it takes. We invest in people who are willing to learn, willing to work, and willing to tell the truth when things get hard.

  • Fund Investments Income Funds, Growth Funds, Emerging Managers

    JLC selectively invests in funds with differentiated strategies that generate consistent income or access opportunities beyond the Office's direct reach. Our income architecture is built on a multi-engine portfolio of funds spanning options strategies, credit instruments, real estate trusts, business development companies, and growth equity. Each fund earns its place by answering a simple question: does this fund generate income or growth more effectively than we can on our own?

    That is a high bar. It requires a compelling and specific thesis, a demonstrated ability to deliver consistent distributions, transparent communication with investors, and alignment with our values of patient capital and long-term stewardship. We do not chase headline yields. We look for funds with disciplined management, sustainable distribution models, and structures that compound wealth over decades rather than quarters.

    On the growth side, JLC evaluates emerging fund managers who are investing in sectors and regions we believe in but where our direct access is limited. We have a particular interest in managers focused on artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, fintech, digital infrastructure across Africa and Southeast Asia, and venture strategies that invest in founders from underrepresented communities. We favor early-stage funds where conviction is fresh, theses are specific, and the manager has genuine skin in the game.

    We also maintain relationships with established fund managers across US equities, international markets, and alternative strategies. These relationships are built over time through performance, communication, and mutual respect. We do not allocate based on a pitch deck. We allocate based on track record, transparency, and whether the people behind the fund are the kind of people we want to build with for the next 20 years.

    The Office is always open to conversations with fund managers who share our values and our long-term perspective.

  • Artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, fintech, and digital infrastructure, particularly ventures led by founders from underrepresented communities across Africa, Southeast Asia, and the Americas. Our Technology Officer holds degrees in AI/ML and cybersecurity and evaluates every tech investment from the inside, not from a slide deck.

  • Hotels, restaurants, wellness centers, and lifestyle brands that create economic opportunity in local communities while honoring cultural traditions and environmental sustainability. We know this space because we have lived it across multiple continents

  • Real Estate United States, Southeast Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa, Emerging Corridors

    JLC maintains real estate exposure across the United States through income-producing real estate investment trusts and credit instruments that generate consistent cash flow across residential, commercial, and infrastructure sectors. These positions form part of our broader income architecture and provide stable yield alongside our direct investment activity.

    Internationally, we invest in projects in markets where growth is structural, not speculative. Secondary cities across Southeast Asia. High-growth corridors in Sub-Saharan Africa. Communities where the infrastructure is being built today that will drive wealth creation for the next 50 years.

    Dislocation in global real estate markets has created opportunities to acquire well-positioned assets at meaningful discounts in regions that the institutional world has overlooked. JLC evaluates each opportunity on the basis of income potential, cash flow characteristics, community impact, and long-term value creation. We are not limited to overheated Western markets. We go where the growth has not yet been priced in while maintaining a foundation of stable US real estate income through our trust and credit positions.

    Our international focus includes residential and mixed-use developments in emerging urban centers, hospitality and wellness properties that serve the growing international community in ASEAN, income-producing assets in cities experiencing population growth, infrastructure investment, and rising demand for quality housing. We also evaluate opportunities alongside trusted local partners who understand the regulatory environment, the cultural landscape, and the communities we invest in.

    We do not invest in anything we have not walked through, in any market we have not spent time in, or with any partner we have not sat across a table from. Real estate is local. Our presence on the ground in Bangkok, our relationships across Singapore, and our connections throughout Sub-Saharan Africa allow us to evaluate opportunities the way they should be evaluated. In person. With patience. With the community in mind.

    The Office is not currently investing in ground-up development.

  • Publishing, media, film, music, and storytelling projects that bridge communities across Asia, Africa, and the West. We believe the stories that need to be told are not always the ones that get funded. We change that.

  • Workforce development platforms, skills training, language learning, and education technology that closes the gap between talent and opportunity in emerging economies. Every founder we back gets access to our HR consulting expertise to build their team right from day one.

  • We invested in next-generation learning businesses in finance, AI, and software development. We've built our own family office management platform and know firsthand that 65% of family offices still rely on spreadsheets. Recognizing that many family offices are smaller, with less than 25 staff, we are developing bespoke software and management platform options for family offices of all sizes because we once needed this solution ourselves.
